Winter Storm Forecast: Snow Accumulation Expectations
With a winter storm looming on the horizon, many viewers of Channel Action News are keen to know the anticipated snowfall for their areas. Meteorological insights reveal that the amount of snow expected is highly variable, depending on the specific location.
According to Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz, the highest snowfall totals are projected for the far North Georgia mountains, where residents can expect approximately 4 to 6 inches of snow by early Saturday morning as the storm departs.
“Little, if any ice will mix in,” Nitz noted, suggesting that the snowfall should remain primarily as snow without significant ice interference.
In contrast, areas extending from the southern mountains through to the northern part of metro Atlanta are forecasted to receive a lighter snowfall of about 2 to 4 inches.
Nitz elaborated on the situation within the metro region, describing it as a “transition zone,” where snowfall will initially accumulate at a rate of one to three inches. However, conditions will shift on Friday afternoon and evening, with the snow likely transitioning to freezing rain.
For those residing in the southern metro areas extending down to central Georgia, the storm is expected to bring predominantly cold rain, with little to no snow accumulation.
As the situation develops, residents are urged to stay informed on weather updates and prepare accordingly for the varied conditions expected across the region.
