OpenAI Introduces Exciting Features for ChatGPT, Including Real-Time Video and Festive Voice Mode
OpenAI, the organization behind ChatGPT, continues to make headlines with its innovative updates and features. Recently, the company launched a captivating event dubbed the “12 days of 12 livestreams,” where it unveiled a series of new product features. Now, they have rolled out yet another significant upgrade.
Among the latest advancements are two new features for ChatGPT that enhance its usability and interactivity. The first is the long-anticipated real-time video capability, which has been in the works for about seven months. During one of their livestream showcases, OpenAI introduced the Advanced Voice Mode, which now includes visual interpretation along with its human-like response capabilities.
For users of the ChatGPT mobile app who are subscribed to Plus, Team, or Pro tiers, the functionality has become remarkably straightforward. Users can point their devices at objects, and ChatGPT will provide almost instantaneous responses without the need to upload photographs or provide elaborate descriptions.
Further enhancing its functionality, the Advanced Voice Mode with vision also allows ChatGPT to interpret what is displayed on the user’s device screen. This feature can assist users in various tasks, such as explaining settings or guiding them through complex mathematical queries. To utilize this feature, users can follow these steps:
- Tap the voice icon next to the chat bar in the app.
- Press the video icon located at the bottom left to activate the video feature.
For screen sharing capabilities, users should access the three-dot menu and select “Share Screen.”
OpenAI announced that the rollout of Advanced Voice Mode with vision commenced recently and is expected to be completed within a week. However, not all users will receive immediate access; ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu subscribers will have to wait until January for their turn, while users located in the EU, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, or Liechtenstein currently have no specified timeline for rollout.
In addition to the advanced functionalities, OpenAI is getting into the festive spirit with the introduction of a “Santa mode” feature. This new option provides a holiday-themed voice preset that users can activate by tapping the snowflake icon next to the app prompt bar.
According to OpenAI’s recent tweet, “Say ho ho ho to Santa in Voice Mode.” This festive character will be available to users across all ChatGPT platforms until the end of the month, after which he will return to the North Pole.
As the competitive landscape of artificial intelligence continues to evolve, OpenAI’s introduction of video and screen sharing capabilities demonstrates its commitment to remaining at the forefront of innovation, particularly in light of recent announcements from rival tech company Google about its own AI model, Gemini 2.0. The ongoing rivalry between these giants is not only driving advancements but also enriching the overall capabilities available to users worldwide.
