Hillary Clinton provided a candid critique of President Donald Trump and his administration, emphasizing the ongoing risks associated with authoritarian governance.
In a recent post on X, previously known as Twitter, she remarked, “Before the election, I warned that there is no safe haven under authoritarianism.”
Clinton’s comments were specifically directed at the Trump administration’s refusal to comply with a Supreme Court directive to facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident who was wrongly deported to a dangerous prison in El Salvador despite his protected legal status.
Clinton insisted that if the administration could unjustly send someone like Garcia to a foreign prison without any legal process, it sets a dangerous precedent for anyone in the country. “If they can ship Kilmar Abrego Garcia to a foreign prison — accused of no crime, with no trial — they can do it to anyone,” she asserted.
Concluding her remarks, she called on “Americans of conscience” to stand up against the current administration’s practices.
The Justice Department has indicated that Garcia’s deportation resulted from an “administrative error,” yet they continue to assert they cannot return him to the United States. In further court challenges, the administration has largely relied on accusations linking Garcia to the MS-13 gang.
In an interview on Fox News, White House adviser Stephen Miller remarked that it was necessary to clarify the administration’s position, stating, “First, we won the Supreme Court case already, 9-0.”
Contrary to Miller’s claim, the administration did not win the case outright. Instead, the justices issued an unsigned opinion, lacking any recorded dissents, emphasizing the need for action to bring Garcia back.
On April 11, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) expressed her own strong feelings regarding the administration’s conduct, stating, “I feel like I’m in an abusive relationship. I think all Americans may feel like we’re in an abusive relationship with this administration, as well as with the Supreme Court.”
