Analyzing the Gameplay
I often rely on Wordle Bot for insights into my guessing strategies. You can use Wordle Bot here.
Starting with FLARE didn’t yield great results, leaving me with 283 possible words. Then came HOIST, bringing that number down to just 31. The struggle continued with BEGUN, leaving me with only seven options and just a single confirmed letter. Fortunately, my luck shifted with my fourth guess: WEEDY!
Score Comparison
Interestingly, the Bot’s performance mirrored mine today. Both of us managed to complete the puzzle in four attempts, but had a rough start with predominantly grey squares for the first three guesses. This resulted in a score of 0 points for each of us. Here are our April scoring totals:
Erik: 12 points
Wordle Bot: 16 points
Guidelines for Competitive Wordle
- 1 guess = 3 points; 2 guesses = 2 points; 3 guesses = 1 point; 4 guesses = 0 points; 5 guesses = -1 point; 6 guesses = -2 points; missing the answer = -3 points.
- If you outperform your opponent, you receive 1 point; in case of a tie, you get 0 points; losing results in a deduction of 1 point.
- Each Friday, points earned are doubled, whether positive or negative.
Keep track of your scores as you play or just enjoy each day’s challenge!
Etymology of Today’s Word
The term weedy originates from weed (from Old English wēod, meaning “wild plant or herb”) along with the suffix -y (denoting “characterized by”). Initially, it referred to an abundance of weeds (in the mid-15th century), later evolving (in the 16th century) to signify a frail or spindly appearance.
