Hitachi Completes Urban Railway Line in Ho Chi Minh City

TOKYO & HO CHI MINH, Dec 24, 2024 – Hitachi, Ltd. has successfully delivered a comprehensive electrical and mechanical system for the new urban railway Line 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, which officially opened on December 22.

This groundbreaking project marks the first urban railway initiative in Ho Chi Minh City, spanning a total distance of 19.7 kilometers. The line features three underground stations and eleven elevated stations, linking Ben Thanh Station located in the heart of the city to the Suoi Tien Terminal Station in the northeast, which also serves as a significant bus hub for travelers to northern provinces.

The construction of Line 1 was made possible through financial support from a yen loan provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Hitachi’s contributions to the project included the provision of 17 train sets comprising 51 cars, along with a cutting-edge Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling system. Additionally, they installed a comprehensive telecommunication system that includes a wireless train radio network, a robust power supply infrastructure, platform screen doors, an automatic fare collection system, and both overhead wiring and track construction. Rail yard facilities were also developed as part of this endeavor.

As Vietnam experiences significant economic growth, the surge in road traffic has emerged as a pressing challenge. Hitachi’s involvement in this railway project aims to foster the development of more sustainable transportation solutions within the country.
