Hong Kong’s tourism authority has reached out to prominent streamer IShowSpeed, sparked by his remarkable and widely publicized visit to China, as well as his significant online following, which continues to generate millions of views. The authority expressed interest in collaborating not only with him but also with other influencers.
IShowSpeed has emerged as a leading figure among streamers, a status largely attributed to his adventures outside the U.S. His travels have captivated large audiences, having established a trend following his notable journey through Europe last year. His recent visit to China has also caught the government’s attention due to his escalating popularity there.
Beginning his live streams from China on March 24, Speed quickly became a sensation, garnering intense viewership as fans flocked to see him in person during public broadcasts.
His impact has been significant enough that Hong Kong’s Chief Executive, John Lee, disclosed the administration’s interest in engaging the American streamer for various initiatives.

As noted by the Hong Kong Free Press, the local tourism board actively sought to collaborate with Speed, expressing eagerness to explore potential partnerships, despite not receiving a response from him yet.
“The tourism board reached out to Speed regarding various possibilities and showed readiness to provide support, but as he did not contact us, we are yet to take any formal steps,” Lee stated on April 8.
“Nonetheless, we are committed to making the most of any opportunity presented by Speed or any other influencers visiting Hong Kong. We aspire to showcase the unique qualities of our city,” he added.
This isn’t the first occasion where the Chinese government has acknowledged Speed. State-backed media have praised his role in fostering positive ties between China and the U.S., particularly amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions.
Speed’s influence has also reached other countries, such as Peru, where he was celebrated as an ambassador in front of a cheering crowd of 20,000 followers.
With a distinctive approach to streaming, Speed aims to continue his global travels, even expressing aspirations to be among the first content creators to stream from outer space.
