Rep. Lawler Criticizes Sen. Johnson’s 9/11 Conspiracy Theories
Representative Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) publicly condemned Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) on Tuesday night for endorsing conspiracy theories regarding the September 11 attacks, which resulted in the tragic loss of nearly 3,000 lives, including many first responders.
Johnson, speaking in a recent interview with a conservative commentator, expressed his desire for further hearings to investigate the September 11 attacks after consuming content that has led him to question the government’s conclusions. His remarks have drawn significant scrutiny, particularly from those affected by the events of 9/11.
In response to Johnson’s comments, Lawler delivered a sharp critique, characterizing Johnson’s claims as “crap.” He emphasized the need for sensitivity in discussing such a pivotal event in American history, stating, “Respectfully, Senator Johnson should stop peddling conspiracy theories about the worst terrorist attack in our nation’s history and one that forever altered the lives of so many of my fellow New Yorkers.” This statement was shared on the social platform X, accompanied by a link to an article detailing Johnson’s controversial remarks.
Lawler further asserted that statements like Johnson’s are disrespectful to the memories of those lost and the first responders who put their lives on the line, adding, “Crap like this dishonors and disrespects the innocent lives lost, our brave first responders, and all families and survivors who still carry the pain of 9/11 each and every day.”
Senator Johnson, who currently serves his third term in the Senate, chairs the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. He claimed in the interview that there are numerous unanswered questions regarding the 9/11 events, particularly about the collapse of World Trade Center Building 7, which occurred hours after the Twin Towers were attacked.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) conducted an investigation that determined the collapse of Building 7 was due to a prolonged fire that could not be extinguished, which was aggravated by a lack of water supply following the impact of debris from the nearby twin towers. Experts have consistently dismissed theories suggesting that the building’s collapse was a result of controlled demolition, reinforcing the scientific consensus surrounding the event.
In defense of his statements, Johnson remarked, “It is the firefighters who have been leading the charge for over 20 years to have their legitimate questions answered. I am honoring them by responding to their concerns. I recommend that everyone watch the documentary ‘Calling Out Bravo-7’ before criticizing those who are seeking the truth.”
