Intuit has announced major advancements to its Generative AI Operating System (GenOS), including the introduction of agentic AI workflows designed to strengthen its AI and data processing capabilities.

Renowned for its comprehensive tools like QuickBooks, TurboTax, Credit Karma, and Mailchimp, Intuit has been integrating AI technologies over recent years to enhance user experiences and productivity. At the VB Transform 2024 conference, the company presented numerous applications of generative AI aimed at personalizing services for its clients. A significant initiative in this endeavor is the Intuit Assist, an AI-driven helper powered by the GenOS platform. Now, Intuit is poised to elevate this framework with the announcement of its agentic AI strategies.

The GenOS framework is set to receive upgrades emphasizing enhanced security, usability, and functional capabilities to support agentic AI workflows.

“It is unifying the capabilities of GenOS as the orchestrator, large language models, GenSRF (Security, Risk, and Fraud), user experience enhancements, and aligning them with what users truly desire: the capacity to have their tasks managed effectively,” stated Ashok Srivastava, Intuit’s chief data officer, during an exclusive interview with VentureBeat. The new agentic AI functionalities are currently undergoing testing and are expected to be available to end users by mid-2025.

Utilizing Agentic AI for Business Process Automation

Intuit is concentrating on tangible applications to confront the real challenges businesses encounter.

Srivastava noted that cash flow management is a primary focus for the new agentic AI functionalities. Timely bill payments are essential for any business, but often depend on the availability of cash flow during specific periods.

The agentic workflows are capable of analyzing various types of customer data, such as emails, documents, and images, to automate the processes of accounts receivable and payable.

“This technology will allow us to automate accounts receivable and accounts payable tasks while also consolidating multiple processes,” he elaborated.

However, he emphasized the importance of maintaining human oversight throughout these processes.

“We want human expertise to be integrated into the system,” Srivastava affirmed.

Enhancing Insights and Transparency with Agentic AI

In addition to cash flow management, Intuit is expanding its capabilities to deliver real-time insights into business finances.

“We are developing dynamically generated insights and responses to customer inquiries through an advanced conversational system that operates on GenOS,” said Srivastava. “This allows users to gain clarity about their financial standing, tax obligations, compliance details, and to navigate the financial landscape more effectively.”

As AI technology becomes increasingly central to business operations, there is a rising concern around security, transparency, and environmental sustainability. Intuit has proactively addressed these issues by enhancing the GenSRF (Security, Risk, and Fraud) module within the GenOS framework, which is crucial for the ethical development of AI. The GenSRF works alongside the Gen Runtime component of GenOS to ensure a secure AI environment.

“GenSRF has built-in safeguards that support responsible AI development. It is adaptable, configurable, and allows for the integration of safety, privacy, and transparency measures directly into the user interface,” Srivastava explained.

Looking ahead, Intuit intends to keep advancing GenOS and introducing new features based on user feedback. A significant aim will be to merge conventional AI methods with generative AI technologies.

“Globally, much focus seems to be on the advancements in generative and agentic AI, which is understandable,” Srivastava remarked. “Our approach involves a thorough exploration and development of traditional AI capabilities that will fundamentally change how our clients complete their tasks.”
