Huawei’s Mate 70 Series Captures Significant Pre-Interest in China
Last week, Huawei unveiled its latest Mate 70 series, which includes four models: Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro+, and Mate 70 RS Ultimate Design. The company has commenced pre-orders through its online platform Vmall as well as various third-party retailers.
Recent reports indicate that the Mate 70 series is creating a considerable buzz among consumers. He Gang, the CEO of Huawei’s consumer business group, revealed that the series has garnered over 6.7 million reservations in China. It’s important to clarify that these reservations do not require payment and are non-binding, yet they showcase a notable level of consumer enthusiasm. Industry analysts have pointed out that while the current excitement pales in comparison to last year’s Mate 60 series, it still reflects strong interest from the market.
In response to this demand, Huawei’s manufacturing and supply chain teams are reportedly working at full capacity. However, there are concerns that the initial supply might fall short. A critical factor in this potential bottleneck could be the Kirin 9020 chipset, which powers the Mate 70 devices. This chip is viewed as a significant technological achievement amid the constraints of U.S. sanctions on China’s tech sector. The Kirin 9020 features an 8-core, 12-thread CPU with varying clock speeds, while its GPU operates at 840 MHz. Although it trails current top-tier 3nm chips from Western manufacturers, it’s said to deliver around 30% improved performance compared to its predecessor, the Kirin 9010.
For consumers interested in these new models, the pricing is as follows: the standard Mate 70 starts at CNY 5,499, the Mate 70 Pro is priced at CNY 6,499, and the Mate 70 Pro+ has a starting price of CNY 8,499. The premium Mate 70 RS Ultimate Edition is positioned at a hefty CNY 11,999, appealing to those seeking high-end features.
