As winter approaches, elementary school students are preparing for the colder months ahead. A recent event at Calder School saw volunteers from RedEx Cares distribute 270 brand new winter coats to children in need, in collaboration with Operation Warm.
Principal Sergio Teixeira expressed the impact of this initiative, stating, “Our students have been given the greatest gift. For many of them, it’s the first new jacket they’ve had, and just the excitement that they’ve chosen it – they’re just so proud of their new jacket.”

Upon arrival at the school’s gym, students were welcomed and guided to tables where they could select their own winter jackets. Luciano Ianni, senior manager at FedEx Edmonton, highlighted the importance of selecting schools in communities where families face financial hardships, saying, “We like to pick schools that we know there are less fortunate families or kids that are in need.”
“Just seeing their smiles on their faces light up a room, that’s what keeps us going,” Ianni added. This year, Calder School is among eight schools across Canada benefiting from this generous initiative. Since its inception in 2016, the program has delivered over 1.4 million coats to children nationwide.
