She said while she feels proud to be the daughter of such talented parents, as a child it often annoyed her.

Last seen in Prashanth Neel’s highly anticipated film, Salaar, Shruti Haasan has made a name for herself in the Indian cinema landscape. In a candid recent interview, she opened up about the complexities of growing up in the shadow of her acclaimed father, Kamal Haasan, a towering figure in the film industry.

Shruti reflected on the challenges she faced as a child, stemming from her father’s immense fame. As one of the prominent stars in Indian cinema, Kamal Haasan’s popularity often overshadowed her own identity. She confessed that constant inquiries about her father would frequently irritate her. To cope, there were moments when she pretended to be unfamiliar with his work. “People would always ask about him; it was relentless. I just wanted to be recognized as Shruti,” she shared.

Growing up, she noted that people would often introduce her as “Kamal’s daughter,” a label that she found stifling. To escape the spotlight on her lineage, she sometimes fabricated her own identity. She recounted a humorous anecdote where she claimed her father was “Dr. Ramachandran,” the name of their family dentist, and she introduced herself as “Pooja Ramachandran.” This illustrates her desire to carve out her own space and identity, separate from her father’s renowned legacy.

Shruti acknowledged her father’s celebrity status, recognizing that he is not just an ordinary actor but a legendary figure in the industry. Growing up in Chennai, it was particularly difficult for her to evade the impact of his fame, especially with his posters prominently displayed throughout the city. She expressed the complexity of her feelings, saying, “Today, I don’t even want to imagine Shruti without Kamal Haasan.”

Looking ahead, Shruti is excited about her future projects, including her role in Salaar 2, where she will share the screen with notable actors Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Her journey highlights the unique challenges faced by the children of celebrities and the ongoing struggle for individual identity amidst familial fame.
