In recent years, my clothing choices have become increasingly selective, particularly as my partner and I have transitioned to full-time travel with just one suitcase each. Choosing the right fabric has truly transformed our packing experience. In this piece, I will delve into Ibex Merino Wool and explain why I believe it stands out as one of the top brands for travelers.
Merino Wool has emerged as an essential fabric in the realms of travel, adventure, and sports. Renowned for its quick-drying properties, antimicrobial qualities, and effective temperature regulation, it has become a highly sought-after material.
With a lineup of exhilarating hiking and adventure excursions on the horizon this year, I was eager to refresh my gear. It was certain that I wanted several Merino Wool pieces, but I was surprised to find it challenging to locate high-quality women’s Merino Wool apparel.
This is where Ibex Merino Wool came into play.
Ibex Merino Wool Review
Upon discovering IBEX, I was pleasantly surprised by the stylish selection of Merino Wool clothing available for women, in contrast to many brands that prioritize menswear or offer limited options for women.
After ordering several items to evaluate, my experience with Merino Wool has previously been confined to thermals and socks. I had yet to explore t-shirts or other forms made from this remarkable fabric.
Previously, I associated Merino Wool exclusively with winter attire, but now I find myself converted!
Women’s Merino Tencel Pocket Tee
After just a few wears, I can confidently say that the Ibex Tencel Pocket Tee has quickly become a favorite and will definitely remain a staple in my wardrobe. It is lightweight, soft, and incredibly comfortable. I was initially apprehensive about ordering clothing online due to uncertainties about fit, but I was pleasantly shocked at how flattering this shirt was. It can easily be styled up or down.
This tee is composed of 45% Merino Wool, 45% Tencel, and 10% Nylon, making it an excellent option for those seeking high-quality everyday shirts. Tencel, a natural fabric derived from wood pulp, has recently gained popularity in activewear for its breathable qualities.
I opted for the silver melange color and would gladly purchase it in every available shade! I wore this shirt throughout a grueling 22-hour travel day, and upon arrival, it still smelled fresh and clean.
The only downside I found is its propensity to wrinkle. Coming from someone who typically avoids ironing, this was a bit disappointing. However, since I have only washed it once, I plan to try a cold iron as recommended on the care label.
Despite this minor issue, I would certainly purchase this shirt again due to its softness and flattering fit.
Women’s 24 Hour Short Sleeved
The next item I selected was the 24 Hour Short Sleeved Scooped Neck Tee. Unlike the previous shirt, which melded several fibers, this tee is crafted from 100% Merino wool.
This shirt employs Ibex’s MECool fabric, which is made entirely from Merino wool with a performance finish. Through a proprietary steaming process, the material feels cooler against the skin, making it more versatile across varying climates.
Such thermoregulation is crucial for hiking! Comfort is my priority, so I sought a piece that would remain stylish. Having moved away from standard cotton t-shirts long ago, I struggled to find dri-fit options that also looked good.
I was pleasantly surprised by the feel of this t-shirt, and its performance during a hiking venture was commendable. I received numerous compliments on the color (French Navy) and was very satisfied with its overall performance.
I tested the 24 Hour shirt on a hike in the Slovakian Tatras and found its temperature-regulating properties remarkable, keeping me comfortable despite the steep ascents.
Since it’s made entirely of Merino, it requires infrequent washing. I have worn this shirt three times for hiking, and it still has a fresh scent. I’m genuinely impressed!

In our search for the best overall travel shoe, Tropicfeel has truly excelled. We’ve taken them through rivers, jungles, and city streets, and they’re still going strong. Check them out!
Women’s Essential Racerback
For an upcoming Camino de Santiago hike, I also ordered the Women’s Essential Racerback in black. Ibex has adjusted the fit to make it slightly looser, so they suggest sizing down for a snugger fit. However, I found the medium size to be just right. It’s lightweight, comfortable, and flattering.
Constructed from 83% Merino, 12% Nylon, and 5% Elastane, this racerback is soft against the skin and highly comfortable to wear.
Similar to other offerings from Ibex, this tank features antimicrobial and thermoregulating properties. Its flattering design allows for easy dressing up or dressing down.
Women’s Indie Hoodie
Lastly, I ordered the women’s Indie Hoodie, designed as a lightweight hoodie suitable for active days.
For this specific trip, I opted to replace my heavier hoodie with something I could layer. To my surprise, this hoodie was lighter than anticipated—but in a positive way.
Crafted from 100% Merino Wool, this hoodie serves as an excellent layering piece under jackets or for added warmth on chilly days. It fits snugly and contours well to the body.
The inclusion of thumb holes makes it easy to wear with additional layers, and while the material may not feel as soft as the Tencel pocket tee, it is still quite comfortable for a Merino Wool item.
Ibex Review: Things We Love
Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of Ibex clothing. Though I focused on the Women’s line, my husband is also interested in exploring options from Ibex Menswear after witnessing the quality of my purchases.
Founded in 1997, this company has successfully established itself as a reputable brand in the activewear industry. Its products are embraced by outdoor enthusiasts worldwide, but what I appreciate most is its strong commitment to sustainability.
Ibex operates as a climate-neutral company that actively offsets its carbon footprint, a significant consideration given the apparel industry’s sizeable impact on pollution. This realization has prompted me to seek alternatives to fast fashion and support brands committed to ethical practices.
All of their wool is sourced directly from New Zealand or Australia and is ethically obtained from reputable farms.
Ibex’s philosophy is straightforward: buy less and buy better. Reviews highlight a consistent trend of customer satisfaction with the quality of their apparel.
Having accumulated an array of tops, my next goal is to explore their bottoms, as they also offer a diverse selection of leggings, tights, and joggers.
Now, regarding price—it’s no secret that Merino Wool products come with a higher price tag. However, as someone who prefers a minimalist wardrobe, the quality-to-price ratio makes it a worthy investment.
I view these purchases as long-term investments, with confidence that they will serve me well for years to come.
Ultimately, if you’re in search of an upgrade to your gear and desire high-quality, performance-driven items that are both functional and stylish, I highly endorse Ibex.
