Alphabet is gearing up to launch a more economical version of its YouTube subscription service, responding to the growing competition in the podcast landscape. According to a recent report by Bloomberg, the anticipated service, termed “premium lite,” is designed to provide users with an ad-free environment for YouTube’s extensive collection of podcasts and instructional videos, while still including advertisements for music videos.
As a result of this announcement, Alphabet’s shares experienced a 2% decline on Friday amidst a broader market downturn. A representative from YouTube confirmed ongoing trials for “a new YouTube Premium offering,” indicating hopes to broaden access in collaboration with various partners. Currently, YouTube Premium is priced at $13.99 per month; however, details regarding the cost of the “lite” tier remain unverified, although it is expected to be lower, as per sources cited by CNBC.
Emphasizing Podcasts and Subscriptions
