Black Excellence on Broadway Concert Set for February 2025
BroadwayWorld is excited to announce the upcoming “Black Excellence on Broadway” concert, scheduled for February 9, 2025, at 9:30 PM, taking place at The Green Room 42. This event aims to celebrate and uplift the contributions of Black artists in the theatrical landscape.
Aisha Jackson, one of the featured artists, expressed the intent behind the concert, stating, “Black Excellence on Broadway was created out of a need and a want to make space for us to uplift the beautiful Black artists who have created a path for us to be present on The Great White Way.” This initiative not only showcases talent but also honors the significant impact that Black performers have had on Broadway. Viewers can catch a glimpse of the concert with a performance by Hailee Kaleem Wright of ‘Fabulous, Baby!’ available online.
This year’s lineup boasts an impressive array of performers, including Kyle Ramar Freeman from “The Wiz,” Nicholas Ward from “The Music Man,” and Angela Birchett from “The Color Purple.” Other notable names include Tony nominees Amber Iman from “Lempicka” and Sidney Dupont from “Paradise Square,” alongside Kayla Davion from “TINA” and Aisha Jackson from “The Notebook.” Rising talents Raven Chareal and Dev will represent the “Future of Broadway.” Each performer will pay tribute to a Black Broadway legend, honoring those who have paved the way and inspired generations of artists. The honorees will be celebrated as VIP guests during the event, receiving flowers as a symbolic gesture of appreciation for their contributions to the industry.
In an effort to ensure accessibility, the concert will be ASL interpreted. For those unable to attend in person, livestream tickets will also be available, allowing a wider audience to partake in this celebration of Black excellence in theater.
The music for the event will be directed by Paul Byssainthe Jr., known for his work on “The Wiz,” with band members including Shawn Dustin, Michelle Osbourne, and Keyanna Hutchinson, while the event is produced by Love & Light Productions LLC, with Aisha Jackson at the helm as producer and Kayla Davion serving as co-producer.
