iPhone 16e Analysis: A Competitive New Entry from Apple

There was uncertainty surrounding the iPhone 16e’s reception in the market. Although it significantly advances beyond its predecessor, the iPhone SE 3, it does so while forgoing numerous high-end features typically expected from flagship models. Recent insights indicate that consumer interest in the device has surged. Further analysis highlights the internal components, which contribute to its unique position among Apple’s offerings.

The iPhone 16e showcases a 6.1-inch display, mirroring that of the iPhone 16, and is powered by the same A18 chip, both of which are compatible with Apple Intelligence. While the device sports a contemporary design, it opts for a notch instead of the Dynamic Island feature and is equipped with only a single rear camera. Notably, it includes an Action button, but lacks the Camera Control button found on other models, and does not support MagSafe wireless charging.

According to Counterpoint Research, a respected industry analysis firm, the iPhone 16e has played a crucial role in helping Apple surpass its competitors in smartphone sales during the first quarter of 2025.

This model marks a significant milestone, as it is the first Apple phone equipped with an in-house modem. Counterpoint’s findings indicate that the iPhone 16e contains a higher ratio of in-house components compared to any previous Apple handset.

Specifically, 40 percent of the components within the iPhone 16e are produced by Apple. In comparison, only 29 percent of the iPhone 16’s internals are company-made, with the iPhone SE 3 featuring 31 percent in-house parts. Beyond the modem, the phone is also outfitted with custom processing and power management components. The proprietary C1 modem provides Apple with cost savings of approximately $10 per device.

The streamlined specifications and reliance on home-grown technology have enabled Apple to set the starting price of the iPhone 16e at $599, which is $200 lower than that of the iPhone 16. The integration of more in-house components grants Apple increased control over the manufacturing process, potentially enhancing the overall user experience. While the C1 modem may not rival the performance of the Qualcomm Snapdragon X71 5G modem utilized in the iPhone 16 series, it surprisingly offers superior upload and download speeds in many scenarios. Additionally, it is engineered to be more energy-efficient, which allowed for a larger battery capacity in the device.

Although the iPhone 16 may be deemed the superior model on technical specifications alone, the iPhone 16e’s higher proportion of custom components demonstrates that it remains a formidable contender in the market.
