Cliftonville Secures Dominant Victory with Late Goals
Cliftonville showcased a commanding performance in their latest match, controlling the flow of the game and creating numerous opportunities, though they struggled at times to capitalize on their chances in the second half.
In one of the game’s key moments, Addis set up Curran, whose attempt from close range was thwarted by the impressive reflexes of Moore. Kearney kept the play active, passing to Gormley, but the forward was unable to convert, taking a rushed shot that failed to hit the target.
Another chance arose when Kearney sent a low, menacing cross intended for substitute Arran Pettifer, who, despite being unmarked at the back post, mishit his shot from a close distance.
Shortly after, Gormley had a similar opportunity but could not make his effort count, missing the target after getting on the end of Curran’s delivery.
At the other end of the pitch, Cliftonville’s defense was grateful for their goalkeeper, Lewis Ridd, who performed admirably by tipping Darius Roohi’s deflected shot over the bar, maintaining their clean sheet.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 73rd minute when Parsons increased Cliftonville’s lead. He headed home a well-placed cross from Hale, sending the ball downwards and beyond Moore’s reach.
As Ards ramped up their efforts to claw back into the match, Cliftonville remained a significant threat on the counter. Pettifer came close, striking the post after cutting inside onto his left foot, showcasing the continued attacking intent of the home side.
The game was put beyond doubt when substitute Corrigan added a third goal just five minutes before the final whistle. He netted with ease, tapping the ball into an unoccupied net after Gormley capitalized on a defensive error from Moore, selflessly passing the ball to Corrigan for the simple finish.
Overall, Cliftonville’s blend of tenacity and tactical play not only secured them a decisive victory but also highlighted areas for improvement in converting opportunities as they look to build on this performance in upcoming fixtures.
