[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for the Fire Country Season 3 finale, Episode 19 “A Change in the Wind” and Episode 20 “I’d Do It Again.”]

As fans eagerly anticipated the two-hour finale of Fire Country on April 25, a main concern loomed: Will Jake (Jordan Calloway) truly abandon Station 42 for a higher position elsewhere, potentially paving the way for Bode (Max Thieriot) to ascend to captain following Vince’s (Billy Burke) retirement?

The promotional content raised stakes even higher with hints of potential tragedy: Bode battles to save his family from a collapsing building as Jake restrains him. The immediate worry is for Vince, Sharon (Diane Farr), and Walter (Jeff Fahey)—with flames threatening Walter’s care facility—but the tight-knit community could have others trapped inside as well.

Here’s a detailed recap of the two-part finale.

“A Change in the Wind”

The threat posed by Finn (Blake Lee) remains palpable at the start of the finale. Manny (Kevin Alejandro), now out of Three Rock and having applied to Cal Fire, spots the stalker of his daughter Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) outside Station 42. In pursuit, he alerts Bode and the sheriff, but Finn escapes and ignites a gas station. Fortunately, Bode, Manny, and their colleagues manage to extinguish the fire and rescue a civilian, though Bode is visibly injured, resulting in Vince sidelining him for the rest of the episode.

Meanwhile, Station 42 hosts a farewell breakfast for Jake, soon to be heading to Butte (although circumstances may shift). Vince grapples with the daunting task of finding a suitable replacement, which Sharon expresses concern over. Walter questions the urgency given Bode’s potential, suggesting Vince can easily mold him into a capable captain like Jake. Toward the end of the episode, Sharon hints at Manny being a suitable candidate for the captain position, though he has pressing matters to consider.

In a tense sequence, once Finn is located, Vince instructs Gabriela to retreat to the Leones’ home, joined by Audrey (Leven Rambin) as per Sharon’s directive. Unfortunately, Gabriela realizes too late that Finn activated location tracking on her phone. By the time they attempt to enact a plan, Finn has already invaded their home, brandishing a taser. A dramatic struggle ensues between Gabriela and Finn over the gun, culminating in a single gunshot that echoes from Manny’s perspective outside. When he rushes in, he finds Finn seemingly down, with Gabriela holding the weapon and Audrey positioned behind her.

Elsewhere, a conversation about parenting arises between Eve (Jules Latimer) and Francine (Katie Findlay) while babysitting Eve’s nephew. Francine desires children, while Eve prefers to defer the topic as she remains focused on Three Rock. Outside, however, a fire approaches their location.

This blaze results from a more significant fire anticipated by Sharon from Zabel Ridge. As she and Station 42 crew mobilize to confront the flames, Bode—held back due to his injury—receives a call from Walter, prompting him to rush to the fire’s location.

“I’d Do It Again”

At the onset of the second part, Sharon remarks on the long night ahead. Manny strives to keep Gabriela and Audrey focused on aiding Finn, insisting she wouldn’t want to bear the burden of killing him. With an ambulance obstructed by chaos, Manny resolves to transport Finn to the hospital himself, urging Gabriela to affirm that Finn had fired upon him first. However, she retaliates that her gun ownership was what kept them safe. As the story unfolds, it’s revealed that Audrey, in a decisive moment, was the one who shot Finn.

Back at the firefront, firefighters from 42 and Three Rock are inundated with numerous fires, including those at Walter’s facility. Bode, arriving at the care center, assists his grandfather in urging evacuations as power outages ensue. Eve quickly dispatches Francine upon recognizing the impending fire. Violet (Nesta Cooper) expresses concern for Jake, who reassures her he’ll manage, right before he learns of the escalating crisis.

As Jake navigates his rerouted responsibilities, Eve alerts him that Three Rock has succumbed to substantial damage. He instructs her to evacuate if the fires reach critical points, emphasizing that property is secondary to lives. Remarkably, Francine returns equipped with fire extinguishers and Cole proposes a bucket brigade to combat the flames, proving effective for a time, although conditions worsen rapidly. Eventually, Eve prioritizes safety and leads a retreat.

At the care facility, Bode and Walter endeavor to evacuate, but miscommunication regarding a missing friend hinders progress. Bode, against Sharon’s wishes, insists on entering the building to find Otto, recalling old drills about survival. This determination leads him into danger as he confronts both flames and injury.

Upon arrival, Jake assumes command. As he assembles the Leones, Walter attempts to assist but gets sidetracked by memories, prompting Bode to plead for his grandfather to move out of harm’s way. The tension escalates when a fire explosion erupts inside.

In separate search efforts, Vince and Sharon split up looking for Walter. Just as hope seems to fade, a harrowing realization strikes when Manny arrives with Finn in his car as the care center begins to crumble. Audrey turns herself over to authorities, claiming self-defense at Finn’s hands. Meanwhile, the precarious situation inside the collapsing care facility heightens the emergency.

Bode, witnessing the chaos, tries to charge back inside as fellow firefighters restrain him. The sequence culminates in catastrophe as the structure collapses, leaving viewers anxious about the fate of the Leone family.
