Maria Shriver Discusses Patrick Schwarzenegger’s Role in The White Lotus

After her son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, gained significant attention from his performance in season 3 of The White Lotus, Maria Shriver has taken the opportunity to clarify a common misconception: that Patrick is similar to his character, Saxon Ratliff. Shriver’s response is emphatically clear—he is not.

In a recent conversation with Savannah Guthrie on Today, Shriver stated, “Patrick is not like Saxon. I just want to clear that up ‘cause people say, ‘Is Patrick like Saxon?’ I’m like, ‘Do you think I would’ve raised a Saxon?’”

Amid her new book launch, I Am Maria, Shriver humorously suggested it could be retitled I Am Patrick’s Mother, given that much of her media engagements revolve around discussions of Saxon Ratliff. Despite this, she expressed pride and excitement about her son’s newfound success.

“He’s worked so hard,” Shriver remarked to Guthrie. “He’s taken acting classes. He gets rejected a lot, and this is finally the role of his life, and he’s having a great time with it. And everybody wants to talk to me about it, so I’m so happy for him.”

Regarding the more provocative elements of the show, which include nudity and intense themes, Shriver did confirm she had some prior knowledge. “He kind of warned me, but not really warned me. But that’s between me and Patrick,” she commented, indicating a certain level of acceptance and understanding of the artistic direction the series takes.

Patrick Schwarzenegger has made his family’s involvement a part of his journey in the series from the outset. He shared a heartfelt moment on Instagram, documenting the day he informed them about landing the role. In his post, he reflected on how his family, avid fans of the show, often jokingly urged him to find a way into the series. He expressed how special it was to share such a milestone with loved ones, calling it a “dream come true moment.”
