In the latest episode of Severance, Season 2 Episode 9, we experience a thrilling rush as Outie Mark navigates a critical situation, bringing us to a new location referred to as Soil Hill. Note: spoilers follow!
This recent installment of the Apple TV+ series effectively sets the stage for an intense finale. As it appears that Asal Reghabi’s attempt to flood Mark’s chip has not succeeded (resulting only in a brief coma for Mark), Devon initiates an alternative strategy.
In an interesting turn, they join forces with Ms. Cobel, revealed in Episode 8 to be the creator of the severance procedure. Their goal is to head to the Damona Birthing Retreat, where they hope to activate Mark’s chip to facilitate communication with his Innie.

However, time is of the essence. Drummond is increasing the pressure on Milchick to retrieve Mark so they can finalize Cold Harbor, which is presently at 96% completion. Consequently, Cobel instructs Milchick to take a sick day.

Is Soil Hill a real place?
Mark informs Milchick that he is visiting “a clinic in Soil Hill” for a nosebleed issue, yet this does not seem to correlate with any actual location in the United States.
While there is indeed a Soil Hill located in West Yorkshire, England, it is primarily a recognized site for birdwatching and has no ties to the narrative of Severance.

This is the first mention of Soil Hill in the series, and thus, the only detail we have is that it seems to be in the vicinity of Kier, PE, the fictional town central to the show.
Questions about specific locations have arisen in the past; for instance, after Season 2 Episode 3, we learned about Salt’s Neck, and in Episode 8, its significance was further explored as a place where Cobel grew up, now marred by a drug crisis due to a Lumon factory setting up operations there.

It can be inferred that Soil Hill is located relatively close to Lumon’s headquarters, yet distant enough for Milchick not to reach it swiftly, which is crucial for Mark’s plan.
With only one episode left in the season, it seems unlikely that viewers will have the opportunity to explore Soil Hill further; it appears to be a fleeting mention for now—though Season 3 is confirmed on the horizon.

What does chicanery mean?
Cobel cautions Mark to devise a believable excuse for his absence when speaking to Milchick. “If he senses chicanery, he’ll lock you out of the building,” she warns him.
In the unique language of Severance, the term chicanery refers to the act of using deception to achieve a specific goal, akin to trickery or duplicity.
