Google Launches Repair Program for Pixel 7a Battery Swelling Issues
Google has initiated a new repair program for the Pixel 7a, addressing concerns over battery swelling reported by some users. This extended program aims to offer eligible customers a complimentary battery replacement along with additional compensation options.
Reports of swollen batteries among Pixel 7a users have surfaced recently, leading many to discuss their experiences on platforms like Reddit and Google Pixel forums. In response, Google has confirmed the launch of a comprehensive repair initiative for this device.
According to Google’s support page, certain Pixel 7a units may experience unexpected battery swelling, making those affected eligible for free battery replacements or other forms of redress depending on location and warranty status. It is important to note that the issue does not affect all Pixel 7a phones, and only cases with visible battery swelling or a significant drain in battery life—despite minimal usage—are eligible for the program. Users should also be aware that problems with charging may fall under this category.
For those encountering these issues, eligibility for a free replacement can be verified online. Users should visit Google’s support page, where they will need to log in with the Gmail account associated with their device and may be required to provide the IMEI code of the phone. Google might also ask additional questions to pinpoint the specific issues being faced.
After completing the online eligibility check, physical inspection of the device will also be necessary. Prospective users should be aware that certain conditions could disqualify their devices from this free battery replacement program. If the phone has suffered liquid damage, been subjected to sharp objects, or experienced excessive force, it will not be covered by the repair offer.
The program extends to various countries, including the USA, India, Canada, the UK, Germany, Japan, and Singapore. For users in countries where mail-in repairs are unavailable, compensation options are offered. Users without a warranty may opt for a monetary equivalent of $200—converted to their local currency—or $300 off on the purchase of a new Pixel device. If the phone remains under warranty, a larger amount of $456 might be available to them.
Launched in 2023, the Pixel 7a has been recognized as one of the standout mid-range smartphones, priced from $499 and offering a solid array of features including a 90Hz display refresh rate and impressive camera capabilities.
