Isha Koppikar, a well-known figure in the entertainment sector, recently shared her thoughts on her experience working on Farhan Akhtar’s 2006 action film, Don, which featured Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra. Although she gained recognition from the project, Koppikar expressed her disappointment at not being included in the sequel, Don 2, which came out in 2011.
In her comparison of her character to Priyanka Chopra’s Roma in Don, Isha remarked during an interview with Galatta India, “I think Priyanka’s role had more depth than mine. I would have put in everything for that part. With my black belt in Taekwondo and 25 years of training, I believe I excel in action sequences and could outshine any younger actress.” She acknowledged the situation but reflected, “What’s done is done.”
Koppikar further revealed her feelings regarding being overlooked for Don 2. “I did reach out to the team but was informed that they had already selected the cast. It’s fine. You win some, you lose some,” she noted, adding that her concerns lessened when she observed that the sequel did not achieve the same success as its predecessor.
The actress credited her role in the original film to the encouragement of notable personalities Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi. “They saw my work in D, where I played a character who faced a traumatic experience as she lost her husband. Following that performance, I received a call from them, leading me to my role in Don,” she explained.
The original Don film was a remake of the 1978 classic that starred renowned actors Amitabh Bachchan, Helen, Zeenat Aman, and Pran. Farhan Akhtar’s adaptation also included performances from Arjun Rampal and Boman Irani.
Currently, the film industry is abuzz with the announcement of Don 3, slated to feature Ranveer Singh alongside Kiara Advani. The project is still in its pre-production phase, with plans for a release targeted for 2025.
