IDF Intensifies Strikes Against Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported ongoing and extensive attacks on terrorist positions in southern Lebanon, continuing into a second day following evidence that Hezbollah was preparing to launch assaults on Israeli soil. IDF spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari confirmed through a press briefing that numerous aircraft from the Israeli Air Force were actively engaging targets identified as threats to civilian safety in Israel.
“Our operations are focused on neutralizing rocket launchers and eliminating threats,” Hagari stated, highlighting the critical nature of these actions for the protection of Israeli citizens. The recent strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least two high-ranking Hezbollah commanders and numerous other militants associated with the group.
Focus of Military Operations
As the military campaign escalates, Hagari emphasized that the IDF is systematically targeting Hezbollah’s operational capabilities. “Throughout today, approximately 400 Hezbollah launchers, including thousands of missile barrels, were struck,” he noted.
Hagari urged residents of Israel to remain vigilant, warning that further rocket attacks could occur in the near future. He underscored the importance of adhering to the Home Front Command’s guidelines during this critical period of heightened tension.
Casualties and Strategic Goals
In the offensive launched on Friday, the IDF succeeded in eliminating Ibrahim Aqil, the head of Hezbollah’s Operations Unit, along with 15 other commanders from Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Unit. Ahmed Wahbi, who had led military operations for Hezbollah’s special forces until early 2024, was also reported killed in the strikes.
According to Hagari, the targeted individuals were involved in planning acts of terror and infiltrations into Israeli territory. “Our intelligence capabilities allowed us to preempt their plans, leading to a precise and impactful operation executed by the Intelligence Directorate in conjunction with the Air Force,” he explained.
Political and Military Developments
In light of the escalating situation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened an emergency meeting of the special Security Cabinet at IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv. This gathering reflects the urgent need for strategic planning in response to the rising threats from Hezbollah.
As the conflict in the region unfolds, the IDF continues to prioritize the safety of civilians while striving to diminish the operational strength of Hezbollah.
