IU’s Affectionate Tribute to Park Bo Gum’s Role as Gwan Sik
In the realm of K-drama, Park Bo Gum has received widespread acclaim for his captivating portrayal of Gwan Sik in the series “When Life Gives You Tangerines.” His co-star, IU, recently shared her admiration for him, dubbing him a ‘walking green flag’—a term denoting his admirable qualities and demeanor. She described how his genuine nature made her feel at ease, particularly when they shared scenes together.
During her recent appearance on the show Piaakia with Lee Dong Jin, IU expressed her enthusiasm for working alongside Park Bo Gum. Reflecting on their initial interactions, she noted, “From our very first scene, I didn’t feel a single bit of awkwardness or discomfort. And that was a first for me.”
She further elaborated on their on-screen chemistry, saying, “It was like Ae Sun realizing she had someone she could lean on. Looking into his eyes always brought me a sense of calm. Honestly, Park Bo Gum embodies Gwan Sik even more than what the script suggests. It’s impressive; he possesses every quality one could wish for. I sometimes find myself envious—life really can seem unfair.”
IU is not the only one who has commended Park Bo Gum’s character and professionalism. A member of the production team recently recounted an experience that underscored his admirable traits. During the filming in Jeju, a crew member inadvertently left an iPad in the scene, a situation that could have led to a significant mishap. However, Park Bo Gum willingly took the blame, demonstrating remarkable humility.
Sharing his story on social media, the art team member, who was working on a clay model of Gwan Sik, described how Park Bo Gum spoke about the incident as if it was his own fault. He recounted, “He took the blame and acted as if it was his oversight.” The timing was particularly troublesome as the scene had already been approved, and the iPad appeared prominently in the frame.
Park Bo Gum, rather than placing blame on anyone else, approached the director to discuss his performance, suggesting that it felt awkward. He asked, “Is the monitoring video available to me?” This display of professionalism and concern for the team’s dynamics further solidified his reputation as a considerate and self-aware actor.
In the end, he returned the iPad to the staff member with a friendly wink, assuring, “Don’t worry, you didn’t get caught.” This anecdote not only highlights Park Bo Gum’s character but also reinforces why he continues to be a beloved figure in the entertainment industry.
