The 31-year-old attributed her enduring success to fortune.

Lee Ji Eun, better known as IU, has firmly established herself as a prominent figure in the South Korean entertainment scene. With a career spanning over a decade, the 31-year-old artist has captivated audiences not only with her remarkable singing abilities but also with her diverse performances in various television roles. However, along with fame often comes scrutiny, and IU has faced speculation regarding what has been termed “celebrity disease,” a notion that implies an inflated ego stemming from stardom.

In a recent interview on the YouTube channel TEO, IU addressed these issues candidly and with her characteristic humor. She reflected on her fame and success, attributing a significant part of her achievements to luck rather than solely to her talent. “In comparison to my skills and talent, luck has played the largest role in my journey,” she shared, as reported by Koreaboo.

While acknowledged for her songwriting, vocal talent, and acting skills, IU emphasized that her prolonged success is primarily the result of fortunate circumstances. She pointed out that many others in the industry possess greater talent, yet she has found a place in the hearts of fans through the whims of fate. The actress-singer also used this opportunity to dispel rumors regarding her purported “celebrity disease.”

During the interview, IU humorously tackled the speculation head-on. She remarked, “It’s logically impossible,” clarifying that she has never regarded herself as significant enough to develop an inflated sense of self-importance. She quipped, “If someone calls me b—-y, it’s simply because I am b—-y, not due to any celebrity illness. That’s just part of who I am.”

Additionally, IU revealed that her experience in the entertainment industry has contributed to her resilience. As the show’s host, Jang Do Youn, commended her ability to overlook needless criticism, IU agreed, saying, “I don’t easily get upset.”

On the professional front, IU is currently featured in the Netflix slice-of-life drama When Life Gives You Tangerines. This series, written by Lim Sang Choon and directed by Kim Won Seok, also stars Park Bo Gum, alongside Moon So Ri and Park Hae Joon in supporting roles. The K-drama debuted on March 7 and is set to conclude on March 28.
