Dreamville Music Festival Returns to North Carolina for 2025
J. Cole’s Dreamville Music Festival is set to make its much-anticipated return to North Carolina in 2025. The festival will celebrate its fifth anniversary on the weekend of April 5 and 6 at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh.
Pre-sale tickets will go on sale on December 11 at 9 a.m. ET. While the festival lineup has not yet been announced, attendees can expect to see performances from Cole’s close collaborators and favorite artists. Last year’s festival featured major acts such as SZA, Nicki Minaj, 50 Cent, ScHoolboy Q, and Rae Sremmurd, alongside surprise guest performances from artists like Central Cee, Lil Durk, and Benny the Butcher.
A standout moment from the 2024 festival came from Cole himself. During his headline set, he openly addressed his concerns regarding his diss track “7 Minute Drill,” which was a response to Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.” Cole expressed regret about the track, noting, “That’s the lamest shit I ever did in my fucking life. I moved in a way that I spiritually feel bad on.” He elaborated on his feelings, stating, “I tried to like, jab my nigga back and I tried to keep it friendly. But at the end of the day, when I listen to it and when it comes out and I see the talk, that shit don’t sit right with my spirit. That shit disrupts my fucking peace.”
Cole’s reflections indicate a maturity in his approach to the rap game. He later addressed the controversy in his single “Port Antonio,” released in October, where he noted, “They instigate the fuckery because it’s profitable/But singin’ ‘stop the violence’ tunes when dudes in hospitals/I pulled the plug because I’ve seen where that was ’bout to go.”
The ongoing rap feud between Cole and Lamar has generated significant conversation within the music community. Following Lamar’s response track titled “Not Like Us,” released on May 4, he has been widely regarded as the victor of their lyrical conflict. As a result, Lamar has garnered five Grammy nominations, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Meanwhile, Drake has initiated legal proceedings in Texas, alleging that Universal Music Group allowed Lamar to label him a “certified pedophile” to generate consumer interest and boost profits.
The upcoming Dreamville Music Festival promises to be an exciting event as fans anticipate the lineup and additional performances. With the backdrop of Cole’s introspection and the evolving dynamics in the rap industry, the festival will likely serve as a platform for further musical and cultural discussions.
