Since its release on April 10, Sunny Deol’s Jaat has maintained a solid trajectory at the box office, despite initial challenges. While the film opened with under Rs. 10 crores on its first day in India, it has managed to hold its ground. On its second Friday, the film brought in Rs. 4.25 crores, indicating a gradual yet consistent start to its second weekend, as reported by Sacnilk. As of now, Jaat has grossed a total of Rs. 65.9 crore.
Directed by Gopichand Malineni, Jaat is competing in a tough market, particularly against Salman Khan’s Sikandar, released on March 30 during the Eid holiday. Nonetheless, Deol’s film attracted a notable 15.21% Hindi occupancy on Good Friday, reflecting genuine interest from audiences.
Remaining optimistic amid competition, Jaat’s prospects seem promising. Film analyst Taran Adarsh shared insights on the film’s box office performance in a post on Instagram, emphasizing its respectable figures in the extended first week. He noted the success in single screens and non-national multiplexes in mass areas, which contributed positively to its earnings during weekdays.
Adarsh also pointed out the introduction of new competition with Akshay Kumar’s Kesari 2, which premiered on April 18. He mentioned that while Jaat now faces a challenge from this new release, both films cater to significantly different genres. Furthermore, he anticipated that the Good Friday holiday would provide Jaat with an additional boost, particularly in local and mass-oriented cinemas.
In addition to the ongoing success of Jaat, Deol is gearing up for his next endeavor. The filmmakers recently hinted at an exciting sequel, with a post on X stating, “#JAAT is not resting after the blockbuster at the box office. He is on to a new mission. This time, the MASS FEAST will be bigger, bolder, and wilder #JAAT2.”
Jaat features Deol as a courageous traveler who confronts the menacing figure Varadaraja Ranatunga, played by Randeep Hooda, who has instilled fear in the local villagers. The film also includes notable performances from Vineet Kumar Singh and Saiyami Kher in significant roles.
