Jack Black has been confirmed to star in Weezer’s upcoming film project. The announcement was made by the band’s frontman, Rivers Cuomo, who shared an AI-generated film poster on the band’s Discord server, indicating Black’s involvement. The poster prominently features images of both Cuomo and Black alongside the band, and it states: “Weezer costarring Jack Black.” Cuomo emphatically added in his post, “Nope, it’s real.” This collaboration isn’t entirely unexpected, as Tenacious D, the band fronted by Black, toured with Weezer in 2001.
Details surrounding the film remain sparse, but it was first hinted at during Weezer’s recent performance at Coachella. “We’ve been busy making the Weezer movie back in L.A. the last couple weeks,” Cuomo announced to the audience before leading into “Undone (The Sweater Song).” He expressed excitement about the surprise performance at Coachella, saying, “It feels so good to be here with you guys and let out these emotions.”
An exclusive report from entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider has suggested that Keanu Reeves may also be involved in the film as a villain, although this has yet to be confirmed by the band. Sneider described the film as a mockumentary, drawing parallels to popular titles like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. The film is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, with casting reports including Eric Andre, Johnny Knoxville, Juliette Lewis, and Ben Schwartz.

Weezer is set to perform next on May 3 at the Lovin’ Life Music Fest in Charlotte, North Carolina. The band has a packed schedule of festival appearances across the U.S. and Europe throughout the summer and fall, culminating with their performance on October 19 at the When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas. They are also confirmed to take part in the 20th anniversary of Riot Fest this September.
