Jacqueliene Fernandez’s Legal Team Maintains Her Innocence Amid Ongoing Case
Jacqueliene Fernandez is currently embroiled in a legal battle regarding a charge sheet related to a massive Rs 200 crore scam that involves con artist Sukesh Chandrasekar. The proceedings will continue with further arguments scheduled for November 26, 2024.
During a recent session at the Delhi High Court, Fernandez’s legal representatives asserted that she was completely unaware of the illicit nature of the gifts she received. They argued vigorously that she should not be held responsible for not investigating the origins of these gifts. Justice Anish Dayal raised a pertinent issue, questioning whether an adult has a duty to verify the sources of gifts they accept.
According to reports from ANI, the actress’s defense team, which includes senior advocate Siddharth Agrawal, pointed out that Jacqueline had no way of knowing that the lavish gifts were funded by money extorted from Aditi Singh. They stressed that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has not claimed that Fernandez was aware of the gifts being part of illegal proceeds.
In the court proceedings, the defense also mentioned that despite Jacqueline seeing a newspaper article about Sukesh Chandrasekar in February 2019, this lack of further investigation should not be deemed an illegal mistake. They highlighted that upon discovering the article, she ceased communication with Sukesh, indicating her desire to distance herself from any potentially harmful association.
Additionally, it has been noted that Jacqueline was misled by Pinky Irani, a co-accused, who purportedly convinced her of Sukesh’s influential political connections, leading her to believe he was a reputable figure. Her lawyers reiterated that there was no indication that Jacqueline was complicit in any criminal schemes or money laundering activities related to the gifts.
The unfolding case presents complex questions regarding personal accountability and the extent to which individuals must scrutinize the relationships and gifts they accept. Further developments are anticipated as the arguments continue on November 26.
