Jaideep Ahlawat discusses his experiences with Saif Ali Khan
Actors Saif Ali Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Nikita Dutta are teaming up for a new action drama titled Jewel Thief, set to premiere on streaming platforms on April 25. As the release date approaches, the cast is actively promoting the film across various media outlets. In a recent interview with The Hindu, Ahlawat reminisced about an amusing incident involving Khan during a rigorous action filming sequence that resulted in the destruction of several mirrors.
Ahlawat disclosed that he and Khan engaged in a fair amount of playful bickering on the set of Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins. He humorously recounted Khan’s response during a particularly chaotic scene: “We had shattered so many mirrors, and Saif quipped, ‘Is this our job now?’” The actor also touched upon his sudden rise to fame with his dance moves in the film, sharing his amusing initial response when approached for the dance sequence.
When invited to participate in the choreography, Ahlawat replied with a grin, “I can manage this much dance.” He explained that he had always believed in his abilities to dance but had never previously encountered a script that allowed for such an opportunity. “They could have easily shot the song featuring only Saif and Nikita, but Kunal bhai [Kapoor] and I were invited to join in. I recognized the chance and seized it,” he elaborated.
Ahlawat expressed his gratitude to choreographers Piyush and Shazia for simplifying the dance process for him. Siddharth Anand, known for his work on Pathaan and a producer of the film alongside his wife Mamta under their banner, Marflix Pictures, humorously remarked on the budgeting constraints for the film, saying, “We didn’t have the budget for AI. We told him to showcase what he could do, and the choreographer didn’t need to intervene much.”
Directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal, Jewel Thief has generated anticipation among the cast, particularly with Dutta noting the excitement that filled the set as the crew awaited Ahlawat’s dance performance. “Typically, when actors prepare to dance, others take a break. But when Jaideep sir was about to dance, everyone was there, excitedly saying, ‘Jaideep sir is going to dance,’” she recalled.
