Ramayana Already Boasts a Powerhouse Ensemble Cast
Jaideep Ahlawat, celebrated for his impactful performances in series like Raazi and Paatal Lok, has recently attracted attention with his upcoming Netflix project, Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins. However, his name has surfaced in connection with Nitesh Tiwari’s large-scale mythological film, Ramayana, which features a star-studded cast led by Ranbir Kapoor.
According to reports from ETimes, Ahlawat was offered the role of Vibhishana, the just brother of Ravana. Despite his eagerness to participate in the iconic adaptation, Ahlawat had to decline the role due to prior commitments and clashes in scheduling.
The cinematic interpretation of Ramayana is notable not only for its esteemed cast—starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana—but also for the involvement of other prominent actors such as Sunny Deol, Lara Dutta, and Kunal Kapoor. The film is being produced in two segments, indicating the scale and ambition behind the project.
Nitesh Tiwari is taking the reins as the director, and producer Namit Malhotra has recently outlined plans for the film’s release. Malhotra expressed his long-standing aspiration to adapt this ancient epic, stating, “More than a decade ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring this epic that has ruled billions of hearts for over 5000 years to the big screen.” He further shared that the first installment is set to premiere during Diwali 2026, followed by the second part in Diwali 2027.
In the meantime, Jaideep Ahlawat is poised for his Netflix release, Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins, debuting on April 25, 2025. Co-directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Saif Ali Khan, Nikita Dutta, and Kunal Kapoor. In this action thriller, Ahlawat and Khan’s characters embark on a heist to steal “Red Sun,” a prestigious diamond known in Africa.
Ahlawat’s performance has already sparked excitement, particularly with the viral music video for the film’s song “Jaadu,” showcasing his dynamic dance moves. The track, composed by OAFF and Savera, features lyrics by Kumaar and vocals by Raghav Chaitanya, further heightening anticipation for the film’s upcoming release.
