James Krivchenia Unveils New Experimental Album, Performing Belief
James Krivchenia, known primarily as the drummer for the acclaimed band Big Thief, is set to debut an experimental solo project entitled Performing Belief. This new album features contributions from electric bassist Sam Wilkes and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Abrams, who plays the double bass among other instruments. The collaboration showcases a blend of innovative sounds and musicianship.
The project will be released on May 2 through Planet Mu. Performing Belief stands out for its diverse soundscapes, integrating found sounds, synthesizers, drum machines, percussion, and various samples, pointing towards Krivchenia’s exploration of the boundaries of modern music. This album follows his previous solo effort, Blood Karaoke, released in 2022, which utilized samples gathered from YouTube videos to create its sound.
To mark the release of Performing Belief, Krivchenia has scheduled a solo performance on June 17 at Brooklyn’s renowned venue, Elsewhere. His set is expected to take place on the venue’s Zone One stage, creating an intimate setting for fans to experience his new material live.
