Jamie Foxx Reflects on Life-Threatening Incident in Upcoming Stand-Up Special
In advance of his Netflix stand-up special titled “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…,” audience member Demecos Chambers shared insights into Jamie Foxx’s frank discussion about a serious health scare he experienced earlier this year.
During a taping of the special back in October, Chambers revealed to People magazine that Foxx described a near-fatal incident that occurred in April 2023, stating he was “literally seconds and moments away from death” when he collapsed.
Chambers recounted that the cause of Foxx’s collapse was attributed to severe exhaustion. “It was just pure exhaustion. His body was just exhausted due to him getting up there in age, and his body just faltering out on him,” Chambers explained, shedding light on the physical demands faced by the entertainer.
Although reports previously indicated that Foxx’s health crisis took place while filming his movie “Back in Action,” Chambers clarified that this was not accurate. “When he passed out, he thought he was just out for a few moments. He basically passed out in an elevator and he thought he woke up a couple of hours later. Well, he was actually in a coma and didn’t wake up until a few weeks later,” he detailed.
During his recovery, Chambers noted that one of Foxx’s daughters played guitar for him. “She’s playing one of their favorite songs or whatever on a daily basis. And he said that’s the only thing that he could recall hearing in his sleep, and it brought him essentially out of his coma,” Chambers said, highlighting the emotional impact of music during Foxx’s health struggles.
After regaining consciousness, Foxx entered a rehabilitation facility where he needed to relearn basic motor skills. Chambers shared, “He talked about how his motor skills he had to start from day one,” emphasizing the arduous journey to recovery that followed the medical emergency.
Despite the seriousness of his experience, Foxx is approaching the subject with his signature wit. Chambers observed, “While he’s telling the story, he’s throwing bits in there left and right. It’s stand-up comedy. He’s dancing a little bit. He’s playing songs on the piano.” This blend of humor and heartfelt storytelling is expected to resonate with audiences when the special premieres.
“Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…” is set to debut on December 10 on Netflix, offering fans an intimate glimpse into the comedian’s life-changing experience through his comedic lens.
