Jamie Lee Curtis and Cate Blanchett Share Insights at “Borderlands” Premiere
At the Los Angeles premiere of “Borderlands,” Jamie Lee Curtis and Cate Blanchett had a lively conversation with “Extra’s” Terri Seymour. Cate made headlines with her eye-catching upcycled top crafted from spoons, a playful nod that Jamie humorously linked to her own projects, “Knives Out” and “The Bear.” Jamie quipped, “We’re just doing the last of the three, you know, knives, forks from ‘The Bear,’ and now we have spoons.”
The two actresses discussed their budding friendship formed during their time together in Budapest while filming. Jamie expressed her excitement about reuniting with Lindsay Lohan for the much-anticipated “Freaky Friday” sequel. Reflecting on their time together, Curtis remarked, “She’s grown up. She’s had a baby of her own… She’s 38 years old. I mean, how crazy is that? She was 15 when we made the movie. I mean, it’s insane.”
In discussing “Borderlands,” Jamie highlighted the significance of her camaraderie with Cate, saying, “We’ve bonded in a really lovely way. Obviously, Cate lives far, far away… Chances that I would have ended up in a movie with her were very small, and so the opportunity presented itself… and I went to Budapest.”
Cate described Jamie as the “glue” of the set, to which Jamie reflected on her social nature: “I was a cheerleader in high school. I love a group effort… It’s beautiful.” She elaborated, “I’m really quite a loner when I’m in my own life, but in my work I get to embrace people and I’ve been doing that for a long time.”
When asked about the film’s action sequences, Cate shared her enthusiasm for the production style: “It was great. I mean, when I first read the script and, you know, you thought it was going to be an ILM thing, a green-screen thing, but we were in Budapest in these quarries and beer tunnels. It was really hands-on.”
Filmed during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, “Borderlands” also features a talented cast including Kevin Hart, Edgar Ramírez, and Jack Black. Blanchett expressed gratitude for the experience, stating, “I just felt so privileged to be on a set… with living, breathing human beings.” She described the cast as a “strange eclectic bunch of people that you wouldn’t ever imagine would be in the same movie. We all sort of clicked and found our way together.”
The film “Borderlands” is set to be released on August 9, promising an exciting addition to the action-adventure genre.
