Jason Kelce Explores the Culinary Delights of New Orleans Ahead of the Super Bowl
Jason Kelce is immersing himself in the vibrant food culture of New Orleans!
As the retired NFL player, age 37, finds himself in the city for Super Bowl Sunday, where his brother Travis Kelce will play for the Kansas City Chiefs against his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, he’s taking full advantage of the local culinary scene before the big game.
In a conversation with PEOPLE during a star-studded flag football event at the Super Bowl Experience on February 8, Jason shared some of the local delicacies he’s been enjoying since arriving in the Big Easy.
When asked about his culinary adventures in New Orleans, the former center for the Eagles mentioned tasting “some alligator,” as well as indulging in beignets, gumbo, turtle soup, and the famous New Orleans cocktail known as a hurricane.
His latest culinary experience? A classic New Orleans dish: fried chicken from an unexpected location, “I just ate fried chicken at a gas station, which was fantastic,” Jason recounted.
The host of They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce and New Heights expressed his admiration for New Orleans beyond its food offerings. “New Orleans is a blast. This city was very equipped to have a celebratory event here,” he said. “There are so many activities to enjoy, along with great food, excellent drinks, and wonderful people. It’s been a lot of fun.”
With a light-hearted tone, he quipped, “Maybe too much fun.”
As a father of four, Jason is also engaging in other memorable activities while in the city. He mentioned getting his palm read—a quirky experience he used to attempt predicting the outcome of Super Bowl LIX, which he humorously shared in an Instagram video.
Jason’s adventurous palate comes as no surprise to those familiar with the Kelce brothers, as he has always been the more adventurous eater compared to Travis, 35, since their childhood.
In a November 2023 episode of New Heights, Jason referred to Travis as “super picky” and humorously recounted how their family’s Thanksgiving dinners often ended in tears, primarily due to the dining preferences of Travis.
However, both brothers have diversified their tastes in recent years, including trying out British cuisine in a July 2024 episode of New Heights. Travis has also mentioned that his girlfriend, Taylor Swift—who is also in New Orleans for the Super Bowl—has encouraged him to be more open to various types of food, including “Indian cuisine.”
“I know, my girl Tay is getting you opened up,” Jason remarked, to which Travis responded affirmatively, “She is.”
Jason further added, “She’s introducing new foods to you. It’s been one of the greatest things that I’ve been happy about.”
