Jason Reitman to Receive Cinematic Imagery Award at 2025 ADG Awards

The Art Directors Guild (ADG) has announced that acclaimed director Jason Reitman will be honored with the 2025 Cinematic Imagery Award during the 29th annual Excellence in Production Design Awards. The event is scheduled for February 15, 2025, at the InterContinental hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

Reitman, known for his acclaimed films including “Juno,” “Up in the Air,” “Thank You for Smoking,” and “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” is being recognized not only for his storytelling abilities but also for his collaborative efforts with talented production designers. His latest project, “Saturday Night,” showcases a remarkable two-story, 360-degree set designed by Jess Gonchor.

In a statement released by the award show producers, Michael Allen Glover and Megan Elizabeth Bell, they praised Reitman’s work, emphasizing the importance of cooperation among directors, production designers, and the broader art department. “Jason Reitman’s body of work demonstrates how collaboration between directors, production designers and all of the talented filmmakers in the art department can create visual worlds and stories with emotional depth and lasting impact,” they stated.

Reitman himself acknowledged the significant role that numerous artists play in bringing his visions to life, saying, “Between script and screen, a director must navigate 20 crafts and art forms. My movies stand on the shoulders of brilliant artists including the production designers Jess Gonchor, Francois Audouy, Kevin Thompson, and Steve Saklad. Without these designers, art directors, set decorators, and teams of craftspeople who work endless hours, my dreams would never be realized.”

In addition to his directorial accomplishments, Reitman serves as a governor in the Directors Branch of the Academy and is spearheading an initiative with over 35 filmmakers focused on preserving the historic Village Theater in the Westwood area of Los Angeles.

This year’s awards ceremony will also honor several Lifetime Achievement recipients, including Lisa Frazza, Barbara Mesney, Dan Sweetman, and J. Dennis Washington. Notably, designer Carl Jules Weyl will be inducted into the ADG’s Hall of Fame, further spotlighting the contributions of art and production design in filmmaking.
