We Should Save Endangered Species First!!!

Jeff Corwin believes that the emphasis on resurrecting extinct species like the dire wolf overlooks the pressing needs of currently endangered animals. He emphasizes that while it is an impressive scientific milestone to consider reviving such creatures, there are numerous species on the brink of extinction that urgently require conservation efforts.
The renowned wildlife conservationist shared his insights during a recent appearance on “TMZ Live,” where he discussed the complexities involved in the potential revival of the dire wolf. He drew a parallel to the way dinosaurs were brought to life in “Jurassic Park,” highlighting the mythical aspect of scientific endeavors.
According to Corwin, it’s crucial to note that these proposed dire wolves wouldn’t be genetically identical to those that roamed the Earth over 10,000 years ago; rather, they would be a modern approximation based on available genetics.
While Corwin acknowledges the scientific interest in reviving long-extinct species, he questions the practicality of such efforts in terms of real-world conservation. He warns against investing vast resources into future ideas when immediate threats to biodiversity remain unaddressed.
Corwin suggests that the financial resources allocated by companies like Colossal Biosciences to resurrect dire wolves could instead make a significant impact on protecting critically endangered species. For example, he pointed out that with the funding spent on dire wolf research, numerous Javan rhinos—of which only about 80 individuals remain—could be effectively saved.
Interestingly, George R.R. Martin, the famous author known for his work on “Game of Thrones,” which prominently features dire wolves, has expressed excitement about these scientific efforts, even posing for pictures with some of the wolf cubs. This illustrates the divide in perspectives regarding conservation priorities.
While Corwin sees merit in the scientific pursuit of reviving extinct species, he advocates for a focus on immediate wildlife conservation challenges that threaten the survival of current species.
