Jelly Roll Makes Impact on SNL with New Tracks
Jelly Roll showcased his talent during his debut as a musical guest on the season 50 premiere of Saturday Night Live.
The 39-year-old artist, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, electrified Studio 8H on September 28, performing two fresh tracks, “Liar” and “Winning Streak.” Both songs are set to feature on his forthcoming album, Beautifully Broken, scheduled for release on October 11.
Opening his performance, host Jean Smart introduced him, accompanied by her Hacks co-star Hannah Einbender. Clad in a gray denim jacket paired with a black shirt and dark pants, Jelly Roll captivated viewers with his powerful vocals during “Liar.” The song addresses themes of addiction and the hollow nature of consumerism, a track he previously introduced at the ACM Awards in May.
In his second performance, Jelly Roll uplifted the audience with a heartfelt rendition of “Winning Streak,” which he has described as inspired by his experiences at Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings. As with his first number, he was joined by a dynamic band and backup singers, creating a vibrant atmosphere on stage.
Looking ahead, the next episode of SNL on October 5 will feature comedian Nate Bargatze hosting for the second consecutive season, with Coldplay returning as the musical guest for an impressive eighth time. Coldplay first graced the SNL stage in 2001 and made their most recent appearance in 2023.
