Jelly Roll Takes on Acting Role in CBS Drama ‘Fire Country’

The CBS action drama Fire Country, while centered around a California narrative, is set to introduce a unique twist with the acting debut of country music artist Jelly Roll. This talented singer will step into the role of a hospital orderly when the series features his episode in April.

Jelly Roll reflected on the experience in a promotional video, stating, “From the stage to the fire line, it’s time to see if I can keep up. Man, this is tougher than the Grammys.” His excitement hints at the challenges that come with transitioning from music to acting.

The third season of Fire Country will continue tonight after a brief hiatus. The storyline will follow Bode Leone, portrayed by Max Thieriot, who is a former inmate engaging in the California Conservation Camp Program. This program enables prisoners to work alongside the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, also known as Cal Fire, to tackle the state’s wildfires.

In a recent conversation with Rolling Stone, Amika Mota, a former inmate who served as a firefighter, opened up about the significant challenges faced by incarcerated individuals in such roles. She emphasized the importance of recognizing their contributions and advocated for fair wages and dignity in labor. “How do we get Californians to understand we can have volunteers that do this work and do it with pride, and get [them] paid a decent wage to do so?” Mota asked. “We deserve a basic level of dignity and humanity. Forced labor and involuntary servitude is slavery. And I really think that we as a state and country have to deeply reflect on that.”

Last night, Jelly Roll performed at the FireAid benefit concert, raising funds for individuals affected by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles. “I am honored to bring some country music to the FireAid tonight,” he expressed while performing his song “I Am Not Okay” and a rendition of Bob Seger’s “Hollywood Nights,” aided by Blink-182’s Travis Barker on drums.

As he introduced his performance, Jelly Roll noted, “I think it’s important while I’m on this stage that I sing one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite songwriters about one of my favorite cities in America. But it would only be right if I did it with somebody from Los Angeles, California.” His comments underscore the synergy between music and the ongoing challenges faced by the community.

On February 1, Jelly Roll is scheduled to perform at a benefit concert for first responders at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Additionally, he has been actively involved in outreach efforts, having recently visited Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville, where he shared music and encouragement with inmates. This demonstrates his commitment to using his platform for positive impact as he has done in various institutions previously.

Jelly Roll shared his experience on Instagram, stating, “Once again I was blessed with the opportunity to get to speak to some men whose shoes I remember being in and it was amazing. Thank you Riverbend for allowing us to bring a little therapeutic music to the yard.” His words reflect a deep empathy for those within the justice system and a desire to connect on a meaningful level.
