Jenna Fischer Embraces Her Natural Look After Chemotherapy

Jenna Fischer is radiating confidence as she shares her journey of recovery from breast cancer. On April 16, the beloved star of The Office provided fans with a glimpse of her evolving hairstyle after enduring chemotherapy treatments for her stage 1 triple-positive breast cancer.

Fischer, 51, took to social media to post a cheerful selfie showcasing her curly brown hair, stating, “I am borderline obsessed with my messy uncontrollably curly post-chemo bangs. They are giving me ’80s vibes all day and I’m here for it.”

In her candid post, she encouraged positive reinforcement for her new look, emphasizing the need for uplifting comments about her bangs. The supportive environment was evident, with fellow Office Ladies podcaster Angela Kinsey expressing her love for the new style, while actress Leslie Bibb chimed in with a compliment, saying, “I think you look f—— great.” Olivia Munn, who also faced breast cancer in 2023, added her joy in seeing Fischer embrace her new hair.

Fischer had previously announced her diagnosis in October 2024 via Instagram in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During an interview with Hoda Kotb on Today’s show, she opened up about the emotional rollercoaster of treatment and its impact on her hair.

“When they told me I had to have chemo, the first thing I thought was, ‘I don’t want to throw up, and I don’t want to lose my hair,'” Fischer recounted, acknowledging her experience with hair loss. “I did not throw up, but I did lose my hair,” she added, reflecting on how challenging the process was for many women undergoing similar circumstances.

She further elaborated on her hair loss journey, describing how it was not a straightforward experience. “It comes out in fits and starts. And so I started by having just like a big, bald patch down this side of my head. And I would kind of do like a real elaborate comb-over,” she shared, illustrating the struggle she faced during that time.

After receiving her diagnosis in December 2023 – confirmed through routine testing including a mammogram and ultrasound – Fischer underwent an extensive treatment regimen consisting of 12 rounds of chemotherapy, followed by three weeks of radiation and additional medications. Despite the challenges, Fischer noted that she never experienced a dramatic “shave-your-head moment” and eventually opted for wigs and hats while transitioning through her new reality.

Now, as a cancer survivor, Fischer proudly displays her hair growth on social media. In a January 2025 post on Instagram, she celebrated a significant milestone, marking the “one-year anniversary” of her breast cancer surgery with an uplifting message about her journey.

“I spent the day in St. Louis surrounded by family doing a belated Christmas with grandparents and cousins after luxuriating at my FAVORITE hotel of all time,” she wrote, sharing a picture of herself relaxing in a room overlooking the Gateway Arch. “Hair is growing back (slowly and wildly, but it’s growing),” she concluded, radiating positivity and hope as she continues her recovery.
