Jessica Klepser Reflects on Tragic Loss One Year After Fatal Plane Crash
Jessica Klepser, the former spouse of German actor Christian Oliver, has shared her emotional journey following the tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of her ex-husband and their two young daughters, Madita and Annik. This heart-wrenching event occurred one year ago, and Klepser is now taking the time to remember and honor their lives.
On January 5, Klepser posted a moving video tribute on Instagram, showcasing a collection of memories of her daughters and Oliver. The video featured heartfelt reflections set against a backdrop of poignant imagery.
In her post, she expressed the bittersweet nature of time, saying, “One year… Crazy how the same amount of days can feel unbearably long and unbelievably short at the same time.” Accompanying this sentiment was a montage of images depicting Klepser and friends lovingly commemorating Oliver and their daughters on a beach, complete with heart-shaped balloons.
Klepser continued to share the complexity of her emotions, stating, “We went back to Newport this weekend and allowed ourselves to feel it all: the love, the loss, the grief, the gratitude. Pain and peace. We cried a lot, but we also laughed a lot.” The montage was beautifully scored by Lady Gaga’s “Always Remember Us This Way,” which added to the emotional resonance of the tribute.
She emphasized the importance of accepting her emotions, stating, “And that’s okay, all of it. Grateful for all those beautiful people in my life who let me be me this year!” This acknowledgment of support during her grief highlights the role of community in healing.
Concluding her moving tribute, Klepser addressed her lost loved ones directly, saying, “Maditz, Anniki & Chrissel, I will forever and always miss you and us together here on this side! Thank you for sending the dolphins in the morning and for painting the sky pink at night. .”
Christian Oliver, recognized for his roles in notable films such as 1995’s The Baby-Sitters Club and Speed Racer, tragically lost his life along with their daughters in a plane crash on January 4, 2024. The accident took place shortly after takeoff from the Caribbean island of Bequia.
Earlier in October, Klepser had appeared on Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s MeSsy podcast, where she poignantly recounted the harrowing events surrounding the crash. Reflecting on a memory from Christmas Eve, she recalled, “Last Christmas Eve, after celebrating a beautiful day with my two beautiful daughters and my ex-husband, I drove all three of them to the airport because they had planned a beautiful vacation in the Caribbean.”
She reminisced about their anticipated return, explaining, “And they were supposed to come back on Jan. 4, and they got on a little plane to leave the island on Jan. 4. And right after takeoff, the little plane… crashed into the water. And my two daughters, Madita and Annik, and my ex-husband Christian and also the pilot, they all crossed over.”
Klepser emphasized the complexity of grief, noting how others perceive her strength in coping with the loss. “A lot of people are telling me that I’m strong, and it always sounds a little weird to me because, but yeah, I feel strong also means that you allow yourself to cry and to grieve and to scream. That’s all part of being strong.”
