Chicago Med is set to return for its highly anticipated 10th season this September, entering a new chapter marked by significant developments, including the exit of Dominic Rains, who portrays Dr. Crockett Marcel. The finale of Season 9 ended with a dramatic cliffhanger that leaves viewers questioning the fate of Dr. Mitch Ripley, played by Luke Mitchell.
In a tense scene from the finale, Liliana’s brother, who has a troubled history with Ripley, was admitted to the emergency department after a brutal attack by a masked individual wielding a baseball bat. He inexplicably accused Ripley of the assault. When questioned by the police, he chose to remain silent, which left Dr. Hannah Asher, portrayed by Jessy Schram, deeply unsettled and pondering the implications of his actions, especially since their relationship was evolving.
Schram expressed Hannah’s emotional turmoil during the Television Critics Association summer press tour, stating, “She’s very unsettled, very confused.” As the new season unfolds, answers to many of the lingering questions from the cliffhanger are expected, with the storyline picking up about a month after the intense event. Schram hinted at ongoing confusion that will not only impact Hannah and Ripley’s dynamic but also resonate throughout the entire emergency department.
With Dr. Marcel’s departure and Ripley’s ambiguous situation, the landscape of the ED is shifting as it heads into Season 10. Schram remarked, “The family aspect will be there. They all love each other, but it’s very dysfunctional. So we’ll be playing a lot on that dysfunction.” She added that the introduction of new characters will inject fresh dynamics and challenges into the narratives of existing characters, promising a season that diverges from the familiar.
