Jack Schlossberg Voices Concerns Over JFK Library Closure Amid Federal Workforce Cuts

Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of former President John F. Kennedy, returned to social media recently to express outrage over the unexpected closure of Boston’s John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. This closure is linked to a recent executive order signed by former President Donald Trump, which pertains to a reduction of the federal workforce.

According to a notice displayed at the library, it will remain closed to the public “until further notice,” as reported by CBS.

In a video shared on X, just weeks after he declared an indefinite hiatus from social media, Schlossberg warned his followers of troubling developments in the country’s governance. “Hey, it’s Jack,” he began, addressing his audience of over 153,000. “I’m OK, but our country is not. It’s under attack from its own government.”

Schlossberg’s commentary took a direct aim at Elon Musk, who he called out in the video’s caption, which included an unflattering remark. The video served as a platform for him to decry the implications of Trump’s executive order that led to the library’s closure, emphasizing its significance as an institution dedicated to celebrating Kennedy’s presidency and ideals.

“It’s time to speak out and resist what’s happening,” Schlossberg urged. “If you’re not doing that, you’re not helping.” His statements were underscored by a photograph behind him depicting Neil Armstrong on the moon, a feat made possible in part through Kennedy’s early initiatives in the Space Race. Schlossberg posited that the closure of the library could result in the erasure of historical achievements.

“JFK sent a man to the moon,” he declared. “But you’d never know it if the JFK Library wasn’t open.”

The closure comes amid the Trump administration’s broader initiatives aimed at downsizing the federal workforce, which is the largest employer in the United States. This effort has had immediate repercussions on the library, as local news outlet WCVB-TV reported that an emotionally charged staff meeting preceded the shutdown, resulting in layoffs affecting nearly nine employees.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey condemned the situation, stating, “Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s thoughtless crusade has caused an iconic institution and economic driver to close in Massachusetts.”

Schlossberg’s recent return to social media marked a swift change from his earlier decision made on February 12 to quit all social platforms indefinitely. The 32-year-old, who contributes to Vogue, has a history of outspoken critiques and had previously exited X after confronting various public figures, including RFK Jr. His prior posts, often charged and profane, sparked concern among some observers regarding his well-being and led to speculation about potential legal actions concerning defamation.
