Kimmel Comments on Trump and the Economic Climate
During a recent monologue, Jimmy Kimmel shared his thoughts on the Los Angeles Dodgers’ visit to former President Donald Trump, expressing disappointment but also finding a silver lining. Kimmel noted that this event served as a “nice distraction” for Trump amid the ongoing turmoil in the economy, which he described as being “busy destroying the world economy.”
Kimmel pointed out the chaotic day on Wall Street, citing significant declines in major indexes. “It was another ‘tarrifying’ day on Wall Street. The Dow was down, the S&P was down. Cocaine was up,” he humorously stated. He emphasized the impact of recent market movements, noting that the S&P 500 had lost over 10% of its value since the previous Thursday, resulting in substantial financial losses for everyday Americans.
Addressing Trump’s apparent indifference to financial matters, Kimmel remarked, “He doesn’t care about money. He knows that there are more important things in life – like love,” delivering the line with a dose of sarcasm directed at the camera.
The late-night host highlighted how Trump’s previously loyal financial supporters are beginning to turn against him due to their own substantial losses. Kimmel quoted Trump, who tweeted, “The United States has a chance to do something that should have been done DECADES AGO. Don’t be Weak! Don’t be Stupid!” Kimmel quipped in response, “That’s right. Be strong and stupid!”
Kimmel also took aim at Trump’s new party name, “Panican,” which he deemed an unfortunate choice, saying, “I’m not an expert when it comes to the economy. But I am an expert when it comes to nicknames. And Panican is not going to catch on.”
In a tongue-in-cheek manner, Kimmel reassured viewers, “But hang in there everyone. There’s no cause for alarm. Be strong. The guy who went bankrupt six times is gonna steer us through this disaster he created for no reason at all.” He referred to Trump as “Panican Skywalker,” jokingly stating that since Trump’s inauguration, there has been an $11 trillion loss attributed to his policies, commenting, “Gone. Just into thin air. But at least we won’t have tampons in the boys’ bathrooms.”
Looking back at past comments from Trump, Kimmel sarcastically recalled, “Remember when he told us to inject bleach to get rid of Covid? Turns out, those were the good ideas.”
