Kimmel Takes a Jibe at JFK Files Release
Following the unveiling of a substantial collection of documents related to the investigation into the assassination of John F. Kennedy, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel expressed sympathy for those anticipating groundbreaking revelations.
Kimmel humorously stated, “I’m tired. I didn’t get much sleep last night; I read all 64,000 pages of the JFK files. Turns out? He was murdered,” poking fun at the expectations surrounding the files. He remarked, “I would imagine that the conspiracy crowd is none too pleased today.”
The comedian went on to highlight that the newly released documents did not seem to provide any new insights. “Other than the names and social security numbers of government workers, many of whom are still alive and about to find out what it’s like to have their identities stolen,” he said. He further quipped that there were “no redactions,” referencing former President Trump’s earlier proclamation regarding transparency.
Kimmel pointed out that the documents reaffirm the long-held belief that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the assassination. He joked, “There’s no evidence of a second gunman. Which means Ted Cruz’s father is off the hook. That’s good,” referring to a conspiracy theory circulated by Roger Stone alleging Raphael Cruz’s involvement in JFK’s death.
However, Kimmel also criticized Trump’s handling of the document release, suggesting that it merely created “a big mess” since many of the files were those that President Joe Biden had already made available in 2023. “But these were totally disorganized. Apparently, Trump surprised his people with this. National Security officials had to pull an all-nighter after Dopey announced on Monday that he would release the files the next day,” he commented, emphasizing the last-minute rush by officials. “Great hustle, guys, and hey, now that we know how fast you are, let’s see those Epstein files you promised.”
In closing, Kimmel speculated, “I mean, I’m not a betting man, but I would bet they’ll take time to make redactions from those.”
