On Tuesday evening, Canada held an election that was significantly influenced by Donald Trump, who has boldly suggested the notion of illegally incorporating Canada into the United States. During his monologue that night, Jimmy Kimmel humorously proposed a theory that Trump’s antics might simply be an effort “to distract us from the fact that JD Vance killed the Pope.”
This comment alluded to frequent jokes about how the vice president was among the last individuals to see the Pope just hours before his passing the day after Easter.
Kimmel’s jest followed a discussion about Trump’s recent polling figures, which have sunk to remarkably low levels for a president at this juncture.
“Trump’s approval ratings are at their lowest for any president in 80 years at this stage, with a recent poll from ABC News and The Washington Post placing his approval at merely 39%. At nearly a hundred days in office, Trump ranks in popularity alongside Kanye at a bat mitzvah,” Kimmel remarked.
He further elaborated, pointing out that when faced with unfavorable polls, a common tactic is to denounce them. Quoting a post from Trump on Truth Social, Kimmel exclaimed, “FAKE POLLS FROM FAKE NEWS ORGANIZATIONS,” noting the emphasis in all caps as an indication of its alleged truthfulness.
“Trump also stated, ‘These people should be investigated for election fraud!’” Kimmel added, questioning whether Trump was aware that no election is imminent—perhaps he meant the Canadian election happening that very day. Additionally, he hinted that Trump seemed to encourage Canadians to vote for him as their Prime Minister.
Kimmel shared another rant from Trump’s Truth Social, where he reiterated his desire for Canada to transition into an American state. “Good luck to the great people of Canada. Elect the man who has the strength and wisdom to cut your taxes in half, increase your military power, for free, to the highest level in the world, and let your industries like cars, steel, aluminum, lumber, and energy QUADRUPLE in size, ALL POSITIVES WITH NO NEGATIVES. IT WAS MEANT TO BE!”
“So, Canadians, cast your votes for the man who puts the ‘whore’ in Tim Horton. What is he doing? Generally, when Trump attempts to meddle in elections, it’s in our own!” Kimmel remarked, comparing the situation to “Drake running for Mayor of Compton.”
Kimmel concluded by asserting that Trump is fully aware this intervention is futile—no Canadian would support him for any office, and Canada is unlikely to become the 51st state. “He just wants to divert our attention from the reality that JD Vance killed the Pope the other day. That’s what this is,” he quipped.
