Jimmy Kimmel Critiques Trump’s Tesla Promotion Amid Sales Decline
In a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, host Jimmy Kimmel delivered a sharp critique of Donald Trump’s involvement in a publicity stunt promoting Tesla at the White House. Kimmel characterized Trump as embodying the “used car salesman” persona, especially as Tesla grappled with significant sales declines worldwide.
Kimmel’s monologue kicked off with a stark overview of the troubles facing Tesla, noting that the company had experienced its largest sales drop in five years, resulting in a staggering loss of nearly $30 billion in stock value for Musk. “Elon is having a heck of a week,” Kimmel remarked, highlighting the challenging climate for Tesla owners amid reports of vandalism targeting the vehicles and their charging stations.
The situation escalated when Trump, amidst the backdrop of numerous Tesla models displayed at the White House, announced that he would be purchasing one, despite being legally barred from driving. Kimmel quipped, “That should turn things around. I remember the time he saved Party City by buying a kazoo. It was heroic.”
Additionally, Kimmel noted the irony of Trump’s newfound interest in electric vehicles, given his longstanding criticism of them during his political campaign. “He flip-flops from zero to 60 in under five seconds,” Kimmel joked, underscoring the juxtaposition between Trump’s past anti-electric stance and his current actions.
Kimmel also commented on the absurdity of Trump’s unsolicited promotion of Tesla, sarcastically suggesting that the former president might struggle to charge his new vehicle, humorously proposing, “Maybe he’ll make little Marco run on a hamster wheel.”
In another segment of his monologue, Kimmel addressed Trump’s contentious relationship with Canada, referring to his contentious tariff policies and his seemingly whimsical proposal to make Canada the 51st state. “I honestly believe the first time Trump said he wanted to make Canada a state, he was kidding,” Kimmel stated, questioning the seriousness of such proposals. “It just won’t. Why is he spending energy on this?”
Concluding his criticism, he wondered, “Who voted for this?” and expressed confusion over unresolved issues from Trump’s administration, such as the bizarre incident involving pets in Ohio that seemed to spark public concern but was never explained.
