The Gaines Family’s Disney Adventure: A Fun-Filled Day with Contrasting Experiences
Chip and Joanna Gaines, the beloved couple known for their home renovation show, have recently shared their contrasting experiences during a family trip to Disney World, highlighting their different approaches to amusement park thrills.
In a lighthearted post on Instagram, Joanna, age 46, showcased collages that captured the couple’s reactions while riding various roller coasters. She humorously emphasized their differing levels of enthusiasm for these rides.
Joanna’s collage depicts her enjoying the attractions, evident from her broad smiles and energetic poses, including moments where she enthusiastically threw her arms up in delight across several photos.
In stark contrast, Chip, 50, appeared to experience the rides quite differently. Sporting a cheerful Mickey Mouse T-shirt, his expressions ranged from tense to outright fear in response to the coaster thrills. His reactions included a tightly clenched jaw and a look of genuine alarm, accompanied by more playful grimaces captured in the photos Joanna shared.
“One of us LOVES roller coasters, and one of us does not @chipgaines,” Joanna succinctly captioned her post, perfectly summarizing their fun dynamic. The Disney Parks account chimed in humorously, suggesting an alternative ride choice for Chip: “There’s always small world @chipgaines .”
The Gaines family seemed to take that advice to heart. In a subsequent Instagram update, Joanna shared a montage featuring their family’s adventures in the park, including their highlighting moments on the classic “It’s a Small World” ride. The video also presented Chip enjoying gentler amusements like the Toy Story-themed Slinky Dog Dash, aligning more with his comfort level.
The montage further showcased their youngest child, six-year-old Crew, gleefully experiencing the park — from riding roller coasters to watching a mesmerizing fireworks display with his parents.
“We surprised Crew with a trip to @waltdisneyworld and we ALL had the very best day. It’s no wonder they call it the most magical place on earth ,” Joanna shared in her video post, capturing the spirit of family joy and adventure.
Before embarking on their Disney escapade, Joanna opened up in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE about raising their five children. Alongside Crew, the couple has three sons — Drake, 20; Duke, 16; and two daughters, Ella, 18; and Emmie, 15.
Reflecting on the fleeting nature of time with her older children, Joanna expressed, “With my older kids I feel like it all went so fast. Having Crew makes me feel younger and really anchors me. It’s been such a gift.”
She emphasized her commitment to savoring quality family moments: “I’ve made a conscious decision to create micro-moments, to feel in the now with our family, just be really more intentional with our time together. And hopefully, try and slow it all down a bit!”
