Filming for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s upcoming film featuring Tom Cruise and John Goodman has encountered a setback due to an injury sustained by Goodman. Reports indicate that the actor suffered a hip injury, prompting a brief halt in production.
According to Warner Bros., “Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury. He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”
This untitled project is currently scheduled for release on October 2, 2026. The storyline focuses on a character described as “the most powerful man in the world,” who embarks on a mission to demonstrate that he is humanity’s savior. The screenplay is a collaborative effort by Iñárritu, along with writers Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris, and Nicolas Giacobone. The film is being produced by Iñárritu, Cruise, and Mary Parent.
In addition to Cruise and Goodman, the film’s ensemble cast includes Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Riz Ahmed.
This project marks Cruise’s first venture since establishing a development agreement with the studio in January 2024. Sources familiar with the arrangement have described this partnership as a “strategic collaboration” between the studio and Cruise.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the collaboration, Cruise stated, “I have great respect and admiration for David, Pam, Mike, and the entire team at Warner Bros. Discovery and their commitment to movies, movie fans, and the theatrical experience. I look forward to making great movies together!”
