John Oliver Demands RFK Jr.’s Ouster Following HHS Cuts

John Oliver directed his attention to the actions of RFK Jr., currently serving as Secretary of Health and Human Services, during a recent episode of his HBO show. He warned viewers that understanding the true functions of the Department of Health and Human Services, alongside its various programs, is about to become a challenging and perhaps painful experience.

In his main story, Oliver highlighted Kennedy’s ambitious proposal to consolidate multiple government agencies into a new entity dubbed the “Administration for a Healthy America,” or AHA. Kennedy’s chosen pronunciation, mimicking a reaction of surprise rather than just stating the acronym, drew immediate skepticism from Oliver.

“No, thank you. I do not appreciate that,” Oliver remarked, expressing discomfort with Kennedy’s characterization of federal agencies as ‘alphabet soup’ and criticizing the AHA branding as less professional and more akin to trendy real estate terminology.

The segment detailed the risks posed by Kennedy, with Oliver emphasizing the arduous process of fact-checking the information presented by the public figure, especially his remarks about autism. “We’ve asked our team to investigate some odd claims before,” Oliver reflected, recalling previous bizarre inquiries, but found the task of contacting diabetes specialists about Kennedy’s assertions particularly embarrassing.

“I received a range of dismissive responses, including one physician who derided Kennedy’s claim as ludicrous, jokingly suggesting it might stem from ‘the worm in his brain,’” Oliver recapped.

As the segment neared its conclusion, Oliver reminded viewers of past criticisms he and his team have directed at the Department of Health and Human Services, stressing that their intent was always to strengthen the organization rather than diminish it.

“This isn’t about proposing cuts or appointing someone like RFK Jr. to lead,” he joked. “Unfortunately, it seems we are about to learn the hard way what each facet of our public health system does as it gets dismantled. It’s reminiscent of discovering the function of your organs one by one as they are removed.”

Oliver indicated that the experts his team consults—typically moderate in their assessments—have grown increasingly alarmed in light of recent developments. He strongly advocated for Kennedy’s removal, stating, “RFK needs to go, and if need be, by impeachment. Any senators who were once willing to extend him the benefit of the doubt should realize that the time for that grace period has passed; too much harm has already occurred. This is a man clearly overwhelmed by his responsibilities.”
