Hello, Vogue Club! I’m Alice, the Senior Shopping Writer for British Vogue. My typical routine involves crafting trend articles, interviewing esteemed designers, and putting together shopping recommendations. During fashion month, I explore every nook of London in search of fresh talent and the must-have items on every fashionista’s list. I also contribute to Vogue Runway, often reviewing shows from behind the scenes, a skill I have honed over multiple seasons.

This article provides a detailed account of my activities during the recent London Fashion Week.

Pre-LFW:

In the days leading up to the event, I made a casual effort to plan my outfits, aided by the insights of a couple of style experts: eBay’s style director, Amy Bannerman, and vintage stylist Phoebe Schurings. They guided me through eBay’s extensive collection, highlighting key items from designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Molly Goddard, and Jil Sander, along with some fantastic unbranded vintage pieces. Phoebe also lent me a stylish Louis Vuitton Croissant bag to complete my look for the shows.

From Amy, I gathered some valuable tips for Vogue Club members on how to shop successfully for second-hand pieces on eBay. Her key pieces of advice include experimenting with different spellings, shopping off-season, and taking advantage of eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee initiative. As Amy emphasized, delving into pre-loved fashion is a surefire way to express individuality.

Additionally, I drew outfit inspiration from a pop-up event organized by Lisa Lingenti of the trendy Parisian vintage store Nuovo. There, I stumbled upon a stunning distressed-leather jacket and a cropped military blazer, both of which I proudly wore to the shows. Lisa articulated how Nuovo has evolved beyond mere curation into a brand of its own, stating, “You have to propose something new.” You can read more about her vision here.

Before the hectic schedule commenced, I enjoyed a lovely evening with industry colleagues at Studio Nicholson’s 15th-anniversary dinner held at Rochelle Canteen. The culinary offerings were delightful, featuring smoked haddock croquettes, grilled chicory, labneh and za’atar, saffron risotto, and a decadent burnt cream with rhubarb. The evening left me well-nourished and ready for the whirlwind of events ahead.

Day 1—Thursday:

Following a relatively conventional day at the office, I attended the Mainline:RUS/Fr.CA/DE show at Charing Cross Sports Club. I was particularly excited about the bomber jackets and oversized bags showcased there. Next on my agenda was a cross-city journey to Talia Byre’s studio in Hackney for a preview of her new collection for Vogue Runway. As a nominee for the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, Talia’s designs hold a special place in my wardrobe, and her latest offerings certainly did not disappoint! I found myself yearning for items like her new slim Bolter bag, a striped-jersey version of her beloved bomber jacket, and an iron-toned shell tracksuit—absolutely swoon-worthy.
